The first statewide fiber network that brings together the fiber of independent local exchange carriers and electric cooperatives is how Rob Shema, CEO of CNI, describes Hoosier Net. Independents Fiber Network, a wholly owned subsidiary of CNI, is one of the members. Hoosier Net is modeled on Ohio-based Independents Fiber Network in that it will stitch together the fiber of its members into a network that covers 90% of Indiana.
As members of INDATEL, both of these networks effectively extend nationwide. This allows Hoosier Net to sell its Ethernet Transport, Internet Access, Dark Fiber, Wavelength and Cell Backhaul services to companies with footprints that extend beyond its Indiana borders.
Shema also comments on NCTC’s announcement of its partnership with Connectbase and Neustar. This partnership promises to help NCTC’s smaller members compete for business services against massive competitors. As Shema points out, the collective membership of NCTC has greater scale than Comcast.
Finally, Shema provides his unique view of the Independent Show. It is the first time for Shema, former Chief Operating Officer of TIS co-producer, ACA Connects, to participate at this annual event as an attendee.
