What Will the Rules Say?

NTCA’s Senior Vice President of Policy, Mike Romano, discusses what we might expect from the impending FCC order regarding universal service funding of broadband. He suggests that the order won’t be perfect and will need tweaking, but is hopeful that the order will improve regulatory certainty.

He also addresses an anticipated FCC Notice of Proposed Rule Making that will morph current rules for protecting telephone subscriber data to include broadband. As he points out, there are many questions and assumptions surrounding what will be in this order. Regardless, it will not address privacy beyond the ISP and into the application layer of search engines and social media sites.

Mike will follow-up with his thoughts on these topics at next week’s IP Vision.
