Make Your Own Cloud #CES21014

Business failure, policy changes and security breaches are some of the dark sides of the cloud. At the same time, having one’s data backed up at off-site locations can be convenient and provides the physical diversity that protects data from single points of failure (e.g. hard-drive crash, theft, fire, etc.). Connected Data‘s approach to solving this problem is an on-site storage device that automatically connects to other devices, whether on the same Local Area Network or some other place via a Wide Area Network.

Connected Data’s software automatically replicates content across hard-drives, as well as provides both local and remote access to PC and mobile devices. They have a series of devices to cover the needs of the individual to businesses of various sizes. As pointed out in the above video, using these devices, one could create their own cloud without having to pay the monthly fees associated with a cloud service. One implication of this sort of service is the importance of access and how this sort of drive could be a driver for gigabit speeds in the last mile.

Note: Filming of the above video took place at Storage Visions 2014. Storage Visions 2015 starts this Sunday, January 4th!
