The Evolution of the Portable Media Player

[Note: Added 9/6/15 – the above player, which is empty, is an example of what happens when a streaming video service goes out of business. Unfortunately, there are probably a couple hundred videos like this on the ViodiTV site, as finding them and fixing them was very labor intensive.]

Way back in July 2002, Archos introduced the first portable media player.  Archos' legacy continues with a series of touch-screen, android-based personal media players that they demonstrated at CES 2011.  Having previously written about these devices, it was exciting to get our hands directly on these hand-held computers that have evolved to do things beyond playing and recording media.
