More than a Pocket-Size Drone for the Next-Generation Selfie #CES2017

The concept of a drone as a vehicle for capturing selfies is not new. For the selfie application of a drone, size, weight and convenience of operation are often more important than specifications. Beijing-based, Zerotech may have the answer for better selfies, as its DOBBY drone is pocket-sized, weighs around seven ounces and features one-click flying.

With its on-board sensors, such as SONAR, optics and GPS, DOBBY practically flies itself. The associated smart phone app controls DOBBY and allows things such as object tracking, facial recognition, panoramic shots and 360 degree shooting around an object. Although it has a 4k video camera, to provide steady shots with winds up to 31 MPH, its 3-axis image stabilization drops the resolution to 1920×1080 at 30 frames per second.

It will record directly to its 16 GB of internal storage, while streaming it via 2.4 GHz WiFi at up to 1280×720 to the associated app. Of course, it takes photos (with resolution up to 4208×3120) and those photos, like its videos are easily shared on social media.

It falls under the FAA weight limit, so registration with the FAA is not required. Its small size makes it easy to carry anywhere. Beyond selfies, this relatively low-cost ($299) device could be a nice device for capturing broll and shots that would otherwise be out of reach.
