Exchanging Ideas and Content

“We all need content. We all need a platform for that,” said Edward Hinson of the video exchange. The video exchange was created by Skyline Membership Corporation, a North Carolina Communications Service Provider, to address the challenge of providing enough fresh, quality content for its local content channel. The video exchange made its debut at the 2014 BroadbandVision conference, intends on being the marketplace for independent content that Viodi has been advocating for, for years.

The concept behind the video exchange is that producers can augment their content offering by downloading content from the video exchange. Anyone can provide content to the exchange via a simple upload process. The content owner sets the terms of how their content can be used, packaged and priced. The video exchange takes a small (15%) handling fee for the management, storage and promotion of the content.

One of the other benefits to the producer who puts their content on the exchange is that the video exchange will promote it in various ways. And, as is seen in the above video, the video exchange was promoting Roger Bindl’s Behind the Brew video as a perfect piece for operators to add to their content offering for this month of Oktoberfest.

I look forward to asking more questions of Edward next week, as I will have the honor of moderating a panel with Edward, Kurt Gruendling of WCVT and Ryan Tupper of Innovative Systems at the Calix User Group on the topic of localization of video, “Offer Local Video Content and Win!”
