What about the 432? – Part 15

An audience member asks, “No one remembers the Intel 432 (microprocessor).  Please provide a brief summary.”
Dave says that when he first came to Intel, Justin Rattner made a proposal for the 8800-an object-oriented machine that was to replace the 8080 microprocessor.  House traces through various iterations of the 8800, which eventually became the 432.  Ted recalls his very early discussions with Justin about processor controlled hardware resources and the problem that presented at start-up time.  Dave closes by saying the 432 was ahead of its time and had too much complexity in the silicon- equivalent to an “anti-RISC machine,” he said.
