Over-the-top services are driving investment by cable operators to be the CTO of the home, says Melissa Simpler, CEO of Affinegy. Recognizing this trend, Affinegy acquired a provider of TR-069 Auto-Configuration Server to help the operators understand the composition and health of the home networks. By doing this, it enables the operators to offer simple self-care options for the consumer.

As Simpler points out, one of the bigger problems they help operators solve is the inconsistent performance of in-home WiFi routers. It is not only operators who benefit, but also retailers and Consumer Electronic suppliers. Simpler explains that the TR-069 standard has evolved to include almost any device within the home network.
