Electricity generation via wind power is often associated with modern-day version of windmills spread through the hillsides and plains of the country side. Urban Green Energy aims to change that with a product line of relatively low-cost wind turbines. Designed to make little noise and to run at low revolutions per minute, such that birds and bees and see their outline, these spinning wings may be installed anywhere; in a dense urban area to a remote, off-grid, rural area.
David Droz, vice president of business development for Urban Green Energy, explains how distributed power, using a hybrid system consisting of wind, solar and battery back-up tied together by intelligence, offers a way to supplement or replace the grid. Example applications include:
- Alternative power to the grid
- Off-grid, electric car chargers
- Off-grid, telecom applications
To this last application, wind-power, coupled with solar, could serve as an alternative or as a supplement to fuel-powered generators for telecom remote terminal cabinet or for off-grid wireless towers. With features such as remote monitoring and control and pricing geared toward residential use, these units could prove cost-competitive for operators wishing to create a more reliable power system for their telecom infrastructure.
