Mapping North Carolina

North Carolina has been mapping availability of broadband for many years, well in advance of the requirements outlined in the National Broadband Plan.  In this interview, Jane Patterson, Executive Director of e-NC, discusses the techniques they use to determine the location and quality of broadband across the Tar Heel State.  She explains how different groups are using this data to help determine where they should locate (e.g. in areas with robust broadband).  Broadband is also an important ingredient for people who work-at-home; she estimates that 30% of the broadband households use their connection for work-at-home.  Finally, she suggests that independent telecom providers engage in irredentism in order to grow their business.
