Smart Meters are a center of controversy in California, but in the rural Missouri region served by Co-Mo Electric Cooperative, smart meters were introduced a decade ago and embraced by Co-Mo’s members. Kenneth Johnson, CEO/GM of Co-Mo, explains how their first generation smart meters helped their customers in ways that wouldn’t be obvious to someone who lives in an urban area. With an understanding of what a low-bandwidth meter has already done to improve their efficiency, Co-Mo is now creating a foundation for a next generation of meters that will have Fiber to the Home connectivity.
