A Hybrid Cloud Media Exchange

“Sharing a single standard format, which is what we were doing before, gets kind of clunky,” said Jesse Lerman president and CEO of TelVue at the 2013 NAB Conference.  By integrating transcoding into its Content Media Exchange, TelVue is able to allow content owners to share content in one format (e.g. a mezzanine level), while distributors receive the format best suited for their particular network. This solves one of the challenges of creating a media exchange (what Viodi has been advocating for years for independent content providers).

Lerman explains that TelVue’s Content Media Exchange solves other workflow issues such as licensing management, affiliate management and library management. Payment settlement is something that is in the works, as well as scheduling of content and using it as an advertising platform. Because of the inherent transcoding capability, multiscreen operation to TVs, Smart Phones, tablets and PCs are a given.

It is a hybrid cloud-offering, whereby one only needs a broadband connection to get started as either a contributor or distributor of content. As demand warrants, one can deploy TelVue hardware, which provides workflow advantages. This approach is a good one, as it provides solutions for both low-volume as well as higher volume producers of content and provides a low-risk path for those who are just getting into content syndication.
