Don’t tell the founders of Urban Hello that you can’t teach an old phone new tricks. At CES 2013, Urban Hello demonstrated a working prototype of their high-definition voice, high-fashion telephone. This video was filmed two days after Urban Hello’s launch of a Kickstarter campaign. Although they didn’t make their campaign goal, they are to the point where they are taking pre-orders for this reinvention of the telephone.
The initial production run will be for the European market, but it is designed to serve the worldwide market. It works with existing DECT-GAP base station or with the CAT-iq advanced gateways. It’s beauty is its simplicity. They have interest in working with operators as a channel to get their devices to the consumers.
The way it is coming to market is as interesting as the design of this cordless and unique looking high-quality speaker phone. Designed by a pair of experienced engineers with relatively little upfront cash, the development of this product didn’t require a massive investment or layers of overhead like it would have, say, 20 years ago.
