Broadband can be a powerful tool for transforming a rural community. Educating the community as to the possible benefits of a fiber rollout is a challenge. In this exclusive interview at the 2012 Broadband Communities Summit, Mark Erickson, City Administrator and Economic Development Director for the city of Winthrop, MN, describes how the Broadband Communities’ Fiber Primer booklet helped paint a broadband vision for the citizens of this rural community.
He also explains how their fiber to the home effort was recently expanded to include a much broader area than just the city limits. He explains that they will be partnering with another telecom company to provide a full suite of services.
