Dr. William Cooper has a good post on a new autostereoscopic display from Dimenco. http://informitv.com/news/2010/09/03/3dtvwithoutglasses/ Dimenco licensed the technology from Philips and expects to have it available later this year for professional and advertising applications. Cooper suggests 3 to 5 years for other applications. It will be interesting to see the impact on the distribution market, as the resolution of the screens are four times high definition at 3840x2160. http://www.dimenco.eu/

Ken, I've been enjoying your coverage of CES. It's interesting how Mr. Postley poo-poo's the importance of standards. He seems to believe that consumers are willing accept buying a 3DTV set-up as a crapshoot until the market picks a winner. Without it boiled down to one or two systems, there will not be widespread adoption. Remember 12 inch laser discs, betamax? The truth is, when given multiple options and lots of questions, consumers tend make a decision not to buy. Also, who's speaking for the distributors in the dialog? The CE guys would have you believe that the fortunes of 3DTV will be built on the back of 3D Blu-ray players. Truth be told, HDTV sales really did not pick up until cable operators started carrying lots of HD channels. The distributors will have a similar effect on the future of 3DTV.
